Since 1994

1995 to 1996 : Consultix (Graduator Systems)

I was invited to join a startup company (Consultix) in late 1995 by a church friend and mentor (who became director of the spin-off company Graduator Systems) to follow on with the workflow-type development and they needed a strong visual basic programmer to lead the development efforts. This was an 65km trip in each direction and a fairy long drive, so we travelled together a lot of the time and would leave at 6am to be at the office between 6:45am to 7am.

We worked on a number of smaller development projects, but I recall the big ticket was working on workflow solutions for our then parastatal telephony provider Telkom, making trips into Pretoria city centre a number of times to meet with the client and elicit requirements from them to include in the workflow system.

I picked up a few skills along the way and we experimented with CORBA and other new(ish) technologies at the time.

Unfortunately, the company (Consultix) fell on some hard-times, financially, and I resigned to pursue another role with a larger, more stable company.
